I’m glad to announce on Thursday 2nd August the interviews of the International Fellowship that where held in London at the Royal Marsden, identified two new fellows for the upcoming 2019 Edition. Ilaria Giono and Alessio Vinci were appointed to cover the six months in Cambridge at Addembrokes and in London at the Royal Marsden from October 2019. Our organization will provide funding for two one-months observerships in US at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and in Italy at the National Cancer Institute in Milan. We are sure that this opportunity will enhance the skills of the two appointees and will encourage the ability to create networks with senior specialists and other juniors coming from other areas of the world. The ability to develop connections is the most important aim of this fellowship and it recalls the strong contribution that Mr. Querci gave to the career of several fellows who attached to him in old times.
During the Interviews, Ilaria and Alessio requested an academic development of their career. The ability to read and write papers is another purpose of G.Re.T.A. and this Fellowship. In the past, the previous fellows were directly involved in effective scientific writing. The two current fellows (Dorin Dumitru and Ayesha Khan) were invited to write two reviews on DCIS and axillary management for an International Journal with IF under the care of Prof. John Benson who is among the most renowned editorialists in the field of breast surgical oncology. One of the previous fellows (Wafa Taher) participated to a study on breast shape assessment with principal component analysis that was published on an indexed international journal of plastic surgery. Several previous fellows were directly involved as speakers of the international Conferences in Oncoplastic Surgery held by Maurizio Nava in partnership with G.Re.T.A. during the last few years.
Finally, let me thank our private donor who provided financial support to this project. Let me also highlight that this donation is completely anonymous and free of any kind of conflict of interest. This makes this opportunity extremely in keeping with the style and the independency of Mr. Querci. We hope to gather more donors in the next future to enhance the number of fellows that could be appointed every year and to offer them more exciting training opportunities.
